Technique

WHO-endorsed multiplex real-time PCR for molecular diagnosis of tuberculosis (MTB).

Used for

Extremely reliable for simultaneous detection of MTB and Rifampicin resistance, a marker for MDR tuberculosis.

Specimen

Pulmonary samples: sputum, bronchio-alveolar lavage (BAL). Site-specific specimens: all body fluids, FNAC aspirate, pus, biopsies (endometrium, lymph node, etc.).

Advantages

Cost-effective, rapid same-day results (test process under 3 hours), and extremely sensitive—detects about 50–150 cfu (bacteria)/mL.

  • Pulmonary samples such as sputum or BAL, and site-specific samples such as fluids, FNAC, pus or biopsy tissue, can be accepted as advised.
